Our Denomination
Cedar Church is a ministry of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The OPC was founded in 1936 as a Presbyterian church that would faithfully preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Currently, there are 255 congregations, 57 mission works, and 440 ministers serving our 28,486 members throughout the United States and Canada.
The word "Orthodox" does not refer to any connection with the Greek or Russian Orthodox Churches. Rather, it comes from two words from the Greek language. The Greek word related to ortho means "straight" and the word related to dox means "thought". The Orthodox Presbyterian Church has always put a high priority on trying to think "straightly" or rightly about God. Our ultimate authority in this task is the inspired scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. The OPC also subscribes to the Westminster standards.
